THE TRACKS

I've got groups of friends that live on overload
You can hear 'em chatterbox on new ways to destroy themselves
I know there's something to be said for extremes

All my best friends were never like me
They always lived their life to an opposite degree
I think we viewed each other as things we'd like to be
and they say some things never change

When we come so close to a fall and we need some clarity to calm
Everybody's got their home away from home
and we'd just roam- walkin' the tracks all night

So this buddy of mine can't seem to get things straight
Headed out on his own in the Spring of '88
Spent half his life getting crucified thru family eyes
But resentment's something rare in his voice

We used to walk the railroad tracks to clear our heads
and drink to the fine futures we had planned
I wish to hell I could've kept that frame of mind
Why are kids in such a hurry to grow old?

Pulling, pulling further away, but it never seems to matter
Reminisce to people who weren't there how I need- to walk the tracks tonight

Sunsets look better when you know it won't ever leave you mind
Memories of cheap wine and talks you can't ever have again
If I go first I hope you remember me like that
If you go first then I'll never sing this song the same again

When all the bulls have lost their guts & my mistakes have reached the sky
I'd like to crawl to tussles where I'm safe and sleep- under the tracks all night
